Does your business card make the right impression?

Business cards are the simplest form of advertising a sole trader or company can use and are essential, not only for exchanging basic contact information, but for making your brand stand out and be remembered. Despite the rise of social media, business cards are instant, on-demand and personal and leave a lasting impression in your customer’s mind.

There are many online printing companies who will offer to produce these cards in their thousands for an apparently low price and any cost saving is always tempting. However, such products often make use of flimsy card and cannot be personalised to make your business stand out. Remember: first impressions always count. If your business card comes across as cheap or unprofessional, what damage does this do to your brand?

Thankfully a variety of options exist to give your business cards a sense of luxury which will, in turn, convey a powerful statement of intent and purpose to your customers. Here we have provided you with some ideas to make your business cards stand out.

Duplexed board: Much in the same way that you raise your eyebrows when you feel the flimsy budget Christmas card delivered by your neighbour, your customers will make judgements about your business from your business card. An extra-thick product is manufactured from two sheets of card glued, or ‘duplexed’, together. Not only does this improve the feel of the cards but also increases your options in terms of using different coloured sides.

Hot-foil printing: For the ultimate in a luxurious appearance, hot-foil printing enables your text to really stand out against a dark background on your business card, oozing class and style in a way that ordinary printing cannot. This technique makes the text instantly recognisable: great for promoting your brand or trading name.

Letterpress and raised print: For a distinctive appearance (and feel), one option for your business card is to dispense with run-of-the-mill flat text (as appears on the inside of books, for example) and opt for text that is raised on the surface of the card. This immediately creates a striking impression and conveys individuality and exclusivity.

Your business card is a statement to your customer so achieving that vital first impression is crucial. Choosing a style that is professional, individual and memorable is a decision that will prove to be worth the investment.
